The River Parrett Trail in Somerset, ,

A 50-mile journey - following a river from source to mouth.

  • Get away from the crowds in undiscovered Somerset
  • Wide choice of great local food, drink and accommodation
  • Easy interesting walk taking in loads of attractions en route

If you like walking through beautiful countryside with lots of opportunities to stop and explore market towns and villages and eat great food then the River Parrett Trail is for you.

This 50 mile footpath follows the River Parrett from its source in the Dorset hills through tranquil Somerset countryside to its mouth in the Bristol Channel. It is an easy walk as it’s primarily flat with just a few climbs to take in the spectacular views. It should be enjoyed slowly over several days allowing time to stop and visit attractions such as Ham Hill the largest Iron Age hill fort in Britain or Westonzoyland, home of the last battle fought on British soil.

Time is also needed to appreciate the award winning tea rooms and friendly, country pubs along the route where you can relax in front of an open fire and enjoy top quality, local food and drink. There are plenty of places to stay; from well equipped campsites, cosy farmhouses to comfortable self catering cottages all of which are featured in the colourful, informative trail guide.
